Here’s my piece (for now, as there may be more and more as I process this).

First of all, let’s get some obvious things out of the way.

Shonda and the rest of the cast (our beautiful ladies included) made this out to be much bigger than it was. This *gasp* moment, this HUGE talk (I’ll once again remind you their combined shared screen time last night was 2:42) and how clear everything becomes. I was more affected by Japril, and I ship Calzona HARD. Jessica Capshaw and Sara Ramirez absolutely killed their scenes. Yes, there was a lot of emotion and they did an amazing job telling this story (that was written for them). To be completely honest, I actually prefer the scene where Callie sees the wedding ring to the aftermath. It actually WAS unexpected, and it was raw and it was so telling. I loved it.

Lauren and Arizona. It’s uncomplicated between them. It was flirting and it was attraction and compliments and sex. Things that feel good. Everyday life with your wife isn’t always easy nor does it always feel good. Had Callie not walked up to them at that point in the story, I can’t say with absolute certainty that Arizona wouldn’t have done it again. That marriage and that family has work to do. Each on their own, as a couple, and as a family. Arizona has to choose Callie and Sofia every single day, no matter what, and Callie has to be willing to work with her.

To this fandom, I don’t believe anything that was said in that room was a surprise to a single one of us. Not one thing out of Arizona’s mouth was a surprise if you payed attention like we all did this season. She was angry at Callie for cutting off her leg, she felt Callie betrayed her for doing it (reasons didn’t matter), and she hates that Callie interjected herself into the crash survivors. Am I glad it’s out? Yes. But NOTHING here was gasp worthy.

Sara delivered a line “Apparently I lost you”. It came from within her, and as always Sara blew me away. However, this revelation also, was no surprise. Arizona hasn’t been the same all season and everyone knows it! Going through the motions and living are different things. If her wife didn’t truly see it until now, they have bigger problems anyways.

While I’m glad that this conversation will continue next season, and I truly do believe they’re going to work through it, this really wasn’t all I expected it to be. The depth of that conversation and the depth of the things that Arizona could have said, that Callie could have said, was cut short for obvious points that anyone could have made. Shame on you writers for just taking the easy way out with this scene and stating the obvious.

This leads me to my fellow fangirls, shippers, Calzonites. We are invested beyond belief and it’s not a bad thing. We love these characters and in turn those who play them. We want all the best for them, however they need to be given MORE. Here’s where I say that I have major respect for some of our insanely talented fic writers, who, I can only imagine are going to sit down this weekend and re-write that ending. Please do it the justice that the Grey’s writers did not.
